Eagle Claw Reel Schematics – Reel Schematic

Historically referred to as the "Olympic" size in classic Hardy nomenclature, the 3 ¾" frame weighs approximately 7.2 ounces and features a traditional small arbor paired with a wide spool. This distinct architecture allows it to hold a massive amount of line and backing, typically accommodating a DT9 line or modern 7/8/9 weight single-hand setups alongside 150 yards of 20-pound dacron backing. Because of this high volume and specific weight, the reel has found a massive second life in contemporary fly fishing. It serves as the "Goldilocks" size for modern lightweight two-handed setups, providing the ideal counterweight to perfectly balance modern 11-to-12.5-foot Switch, Trout Spey, and light Spey rods without making the outfit feel clunky or bottom-heavy
